El Chavo del Ocho (Chaves in Brazil and O Xavier in Portugal), or simply El Chavo, is a Mexican television series created, scripted, directed and starring Roberto Gómez Bolaños (known as Chespirito). The main cast is composed by Roberto Gómez Bolaños(Chaves), Carlos Villagrán(Quico), Ramón Valdés(Seu Madruga), Florinda Meza(Dona Florinda), María Antonieta de las Nieves(Chiquinha), Edgar Vivar(Lord Barriga), Rubén Aguirre(Professor Girafales), Angelines Fernández(Witch of the 71), Horacio Gómez(Godinez) and Raúl Padilla(Jaiminho). The series first aired in 1971. The barrel is a secret hideout, Chaves never slept there. They say Chaves shared an apartment with an old lady. Neither she nor the apartment ever appeared on the show.
